How one service dog changed a veteran’s life

When Army Spc. Karl Fleming returned home from Afghanistan suffering physical injuries as well as the invisible wounds of war – depression, anxiety, memory loss, and post-traumatic stress disorder – it was a very special dog that finally changed his life.

Before being paired with Kuchar, his yellow Lab, his service dog, his “battle buddy,” Fleming rarely ventured out, avoided crowds, and lived in constant fear. He suffered from severe depression and anxiety, dealt with crippling nightmares, and just wasn’t leading the happy life that a hero deserves to live.
